“Think Too Much” by Hannah Jagadu

In one of my favorite tracks of the year so far, an 18-year-old Hannah Jagadu comes on strong with fun chords and bass on her new dreamy, indie-pop jam “Think Too Much.” Hailing from Mesquite, Texas, Jagadu has a refreshing yet familiarly warm sound. It’s easy to fall in love with her character and voice. The song has a great message around fear and what we contribute to it; it pairs well with fans of Clairo, SALES, Arlo Parks, Phoenix, and HAIM.

"You're just getting started, you're not really that old"
Then why does it feel like there's no time to grow?

The lo-fi music video is carried along by Jagadu and her inner-monologue of trying too hard and thinking too much. This message is battled by the contrasting presence of her fun and heart-warming friends. This contrast really proves her greater point: With lots of acceptance and forgiveness among a group of support, why should she think so much when she can just be herself and make her songs her way? They’ll still be considered bops among herself and her accepting people.

I’m so scared to be 23
Education, and relations, oh, and morality
(Morality, oh, morality)
"You're just getting started you're the coolest I know"
Then why does it feel like I'm digging a hole?

She’s young, but already an immensely talented artist. According to her label Sub Pop, she is “in her first year attending NYU,” residing in New York these days. We’re all thinking too much these days, and I’m grateful to have artists like Hannah Jagadu to help remind us and pull us out.

Enjoy, good people.
